Shri Mukunduru Swamiji was no ordinary sage. Born as Boraiah in Siddaramana Palya, Tipatur Taluk, he lived a life that defied the boundaries of time, reason, and the ordinary. Orphaned at 12, a laborer at 18, and a householder soon after, his life seemed destined for the mundane — until one piercing moment of disillusionment changed everything. Shedding the chains of worldly ties, he walked away with nothing but a panche wrapped around his waist, and stepped into the luminous path of renunciation.
His journey into the inner realms began at Kanive Rameshwara and deepened under the guidance of Nanjundaradhya Shivayogi of Honnuduke. Years of seva, discipline, and spiritual practice led him to receive the sacred initiation into Kundalini Yoga, earning the title Basavalinga Shivayogi. From there, his path moved beyond body and time. On a 120-foot rock in Mukunduru’s Mallikarjuna Giri — by the serene banks of the Hemavathi — he entered into intense yogic sadhanas, awakening powers and insights that ordinary minds could scarcely grasp.
He mastered the eight siddhis, radiated peace, and drew thousands who believed his mere presence could dissolve their deepest sufferings. Living for 130 luminous years, he attained Shivayoga on October 8, 1967—not as an end, but as a final union with the infinite.
Belagere Krishna Shastri’s powerful narration in Yegdagella Aite, now presented in English as Yogi Beyond Time, offers an intimate, unforgettable glimpse into the life of this mystic — who lived not for fame or following, but for truth, silence, and the boundless depths of the Self.
